This is very helpful for smaller babies once you get them out of the bassinet or carseat. it is on the thin side, but you don't want it too bulky

I am not sure how helpful the insert is. It is pretty thin. I do not feel like it provides that much support for an infant like the infant inserts in the carseat do.
